Bring the outdoors in this Fall, Free-style

by Alison on September 24, 2012

Take a nature walk, friend a farmer or harvest from your own garden for these timeless Autumn decorations:

Pumpkins: carved or not these are my favorite. Decorate porches, fire-place mantels, around the mailbox, anywhere! Carve them, paint them, cover them with glitter.  Roast the seeds for a snack.

Mini pumpkins and apples make great tea light holders. Cut out a hole large enough to accommodate the tea light. Group them together for that “wow” effect.

CornStalks: decorate your porch, lamp-post or make an outdoor display.

Acorns:  fill up a clear vase, bowl, or use in the base of a candle holder

Leaves: use a paint brush to give them a quick coat of white paint, let dry, then spray paint orange, yellow, or gold, for seasonal color. Line your window sills, table, or fill a basket with your “homemade” leaves.

Pinecones: use them natural or paint them as you did the leaves.

Branches: gather up fallen branches and spray paint black or orange and add fake crows from Dollar Tree to the branches. Place them at the front door entrance or use inside for Halloween decorating.
